Happy Birthday Tanuja: Know Life Interesting Facts about Her

The yesteryear actress Tanuja is celebrating her 77th birthday (September 23, 1943). Tanuja comes from a film family. From her mother to her husband and daughters, she remained active in films. Tanuja is still remembered for films like 'Bahare Phir Aayegi' (1966), 'Jewel Thief', 'Haathi Mere Saathi' (1971), and 'Anubhav' (1971). Apart from Hindi, she has also shown her talent in Marathi, Bengali, and Gujarati films.

Personal life

Born in the Samarth family, Tanuja's father was a director and choreographer, while mother Shobhana Samarth was a well-known actress. His parents separated at an early age. To make her daughter's career, Tanuja's mother herself produced her first film. Another sister Nutan was also a film actress.

Marriage and children

Tanuja and Shomu Mukherjee (Director-Producer) met on the sets of the film 'Ek Baar Muskrut Do' (1972). After just one year of an affair, both of them got married in 1973. They have two daughters Kajol and Tanisha.

Kajol is a successful Bollywood actress and she is married to actor Ajay Devgan. At the same time, Tanuja's younger daughter Tanisha has also worked in some films. Tanuja and Shomu separated after a few years of marriage, but they never got divorced. Shomu Mukherjee passed away in April 2008 due to illness.

Film career

Tanuja started her film career as a child artist in 1950 with the film 'Hamari Beti'. At the same time, in 1960, the film 'Chhabili' was her first film as an actress, but the film that established Tanuja as an actress in the industry was 'Hamari Yaad Aayegi' (1961).

Always compared to sister

Despite proving herself as an actress, Tanuja was always compared to her sister Nutan. At the same time, after a career of a few years, Tanuja's film career could not touch many heights due to the role of sister-in-law and supporting actress.
