Alia Bhatt Begins Shooting for Gangubai Kathiawadi, Shares Picture

Actor Alia Bhatt has shared an image from what seems to be the first day of the shoot for an upcoming film, Gangubai Kathiawadi. The movie is directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and marks their first cooperation on the big screen.

"Look what Santa gave me this year," she subtitled an image of her trailer with the words 'Gangubai' composed on a window. A minor image of SLB productions is likewise observed on top.

Alia plays Gangubai Kathewali, the matriarch of Kamathipura in Mumbai, in the film. According to a book composed by columnist S Hussain Zaidi, titled Mafia Queens of Mumbai, she was a young lady pushed into prostitution, however, she transforms into perhaps the greatest supporter. She makes money off the trade carries a soft spot for young women forced into it.

Reporting the project in October, Alia composed on Twitter, "A name you've heard a story you haven't. #GangubaiKathiawadi This one's going to be special!! Directed by #SanjayLeelaBhansali, released 11 September 2020."

Reports propose that actor Ajay Devgn will likewise be a part of the film. "It is not a full-fledged part but a special appearance. It is a very interesting role. An official statement in this regard will be made soon,"  a source near the development told PTI. Actor Vijay Raaz will likewise star in the film.

Bhansali will co-produce the film with Jayantilal Gada's Pen India Limited. He additionally recently reported another project, Baiju Bawra.

Alia recently completed the shooting for Sadak 2, directed by Mahesh Bhatt and co-featuring sister Pooja Bhatt, Sanjay Dutt and Aditya Roy Kapur. She is at present working on Brahmastra with beau Ranbir Kapoor and will start shooting for Karan Johar's Takht next year.
