Shiv Sena President Uddhav Thackeray will become the eighth Chief Minister who took over as Chief Minister of Maharashtra on Thursday evening. Uddhav Thackeray's swearing-in ceremony is at Shivaji Park in Mumbai. Congress leaders AR Antule, Vasantdada Patil, Shivajirao Nilangekar Patil, Shankarrao Chavan, Sushil Kumar Shinde and Prithviraj Chavan are among the leaders who were not members of any House of the State Legislature when they took oath as Chief Ministers. The name of the then Congress leader and current NCP chief Sharad Pawar is also among these leaders.

Thackeray (59) will become the eighth leader to take oath as Chief Minister at Shivaji Park here on Thursday evening. According to the provisions of the Constitution, if a leader is not a member of the Legislative Assembly or the Legislative Council, he has to become a member of the Legislative Assembly within six months of taking the oath of office. Antulay, who became the Chief Minister in June 1980, was the first such leader in the state. Vasantdada Patil became Chief Minister in February 1983 after resigning as an MP. Nilangekar Patil became the Chief Minister in June 1985, while Shankarrao Chavan, who was then Union Minister, took up the top post of the state in March 1986.

Pawar was then the defense minister in the Narasimha Rao government, but after Sudhakarrao Naik stepped down from the post after the riots in Mumbai, Pawar's name came to the fore in March 1993. Similarly, Prithviraj Chavan was a minister in the UPA government led by Manmohan Singh, but he also became the Chief Minister of Maharashtra in November 2010, replacing Ashok Chavan. Antulay, Nilangekar Patil and Shinde contested the assembly by-election after becoming Chief Minister and emerged victorious. The other four leaders fulfilled the constitutional provision by becoming members of the Legislative Council.

NCP leader Ajit Pawar has said that Uddhav Thackeray and six ministers will be sworn in as Chief Minister on Thursday. Two of these ministers will be from NCP, Shiv Sena and Congress. Ajit also made it clear that he would not take oath as Maharashtra minister on Thursday evening during the ceremony at Shivaji Park. "I will not take oath today," he told reporters after a meeting of party leaders at NCP chief Sharad Pawar's residence here. Only Chhagan Bhujbal and Jayant Patil will take oath as ministers from NCP. "

He said that two MLAs each from Shiv Sena and Congress will also take oath as ministers. Ajit dismissed reports that he was disappointed for not being sworn in as Deputy Chief Minister on Thursday. He said, "I am not disappointed anywhere. Do you see despair on my face? "The former Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister also denied reports of his" rebellion ". Ajit joined hands with the BJP last week and was sworn in as Deputy Chief Minister by Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari on Saturday morning.

However, he later resigned from the post citing personal reasons. His move resulted in the fall of the newly formed Devendra Fadnavis-led (BJP) government in the state. He said, "It was not a rebellion. I was in NCP, I am in RKP and I will be in NCP. "He said that he would attend the oath-taking ceremony in the evening along with his cousin and Lok Sabha member Supriya Sule. Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress have formed a front called Maha Vikas Aghadi to form the government in the state.
