Shivani Alakh

Bharatiya Janata Party's Bhopal candidate Pragya Singh Thakur created yet another controversy on Thursday after she termed Mahatma Gandhi's assassin Nathuram Godse a patriot.

Thankur responded to a question on actor turned politician Kamal Haasan's comments that Godse was the first terrorist of free India, by saying Nathuram Godse was a patriot, is a patriot, and will always remain one.

She added those calling him a terrorist should see inside their own self and a befitting reply would be given to such people in the elections.

In a response to which Congress spoke person said India's soul is again under attack by the current ruling BJP dispensation and that Thakur has crossed all limits by describing Godse as a "true nationalist".

He added "Pragya Thakur crossed all limits today and committed the unpardonable sin of describing Nathuram Godse as a true nationalist. BJP leaders are describing the murderer of father of the nation as a true nationalist while declaring those who sacrificed their lives for nation like Hemant Karkare as anti-nationals."

However BJP quickly scrambled into damage control mode and said "Thakur should publicly apologise for her statement. BJP does not agree with this statement, we condemn it. Party will ask her for clarification, she should apologise publicly for this statement."
