Union minister and BJP candidate in Amethi Smriti Irani lashes out at Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Monday after he called off his visit to the constituency. She also said that he once again has betrayed the people of his constituency even on polling day. Smriti Irani and Rahul Gandhi are pitted against each other in Amethi Lok Sabha constituency.

Rahul Gandhi was expected to arrive in Amethi in the afternoon but he cancelled his visit to Amethi Lok Sabha constituency. The Congress president was conspicuous by his absence as Amethi voted on Monday, providing a handle to his rival Smriti Irani of the BJP to declare him a "missing MP".

Smriti Irani quoted saying "It is surprising that 'lapata MP' failed to appear on voting day. Since morning, their people are saying that he is coming to Amethi. What is the point of lying." She further added that Rahul Gandhi has become arrogant.

Gandhi, a sitting member of the Lok Sabha from this high profile constituency of Uttar Pradesh, is seeking re-election for the fourth time.
