The home ministry revoked the citizenship of TRS MLA Ramesh Chennamaneni from Telangana for concealing the facts. The case concerned visits during the 12 months immediately preceding his application for Indian citizenship. Chennamaneni, who was elected MLA from Vemulvada for the second time last year, said the High Court had earlier given a positive verdict. He will again challenge this decision of the government in the High Court.

The Home Ministry said in an order on Wednesday that Chennamaneni misled the Indian government by making false statements or concealing facts. If he had stated the fact that he was not living in India for a year before applying, the competent authority of the Ministry would not grant him citizenship.

The order states that Chennamaneni, being a public representative, had the responsibility to tell the truth. His demeanor should have been an example to those he represents. The ministry said that if action was not taken against the MLA, the public would have got the wrong message. People will make the wrong assumption that Indian citizenship can be taken by making false statements and hiding the facts.Chennamaneni is alleged to have a German passport. It is alleged that he applied for Indian citizenship on the basis of fake papers, concealing the facts
