The Consortium of National Law Universities has decided to change the pattern of the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2020. CLAT is an undergraduate entrance examination, on the basis of which admission is done in law institutes across the country. The main objective of the change in exam pattern is to reduce stress among students and promote healthy competition among them.

Proctor Jalaj Gontia of Dharmashastra National Law University, Jabalpur said, 'Changes have been made to make the clat less complicated. No test can be welcomed that causes tension. We are looking at the possibility of making the exam pattern more effective. The change in CLAT 2020 pattern is aimed at offering seats to a more competent candidate.

The new pattern is still under discussion and a new team has been formed to prepare it which will be announced in December 2019. V Vijayakumar, Vice Chancellor of National Law University, Bhopal, has been appointed as the President of the Consortium while Balraj Chauhan, Vice Chancellor of National Law University, Jabalpur, will be sent the final report for approval.

In the new pattern of CLAT, there will be extensive questions on English, current affairs etc. The number of questions will also be reduced from the earlier 200 to 120 to 150. The exam will be held on 10 May 2020 and registration will start from 1 January.
