India is Committed to Cooperation in Implementing Bangladesh’s Development Agenda

Ankita Bohra

Bangladesh also respects the mindset of this developmental partnership of India.  These sentiments have strengthened the bilateral relations of the two.  The year 2008 was an important year in Bangladesh's socio-economic planning history, when Bangladesh announced its Vision 2021.

Bangladesh had set the Goal of Becoming a Middle Income Economy by 2021

Bangladesh has set the target of becoming a medium income economy by 2021.  After this, Bangladesh adopted Vision 2041 under which it set a target to become a developed economy by 2041. In order to maintain peace, security, stability in South Asia, it is necessary that terrorism, religious fundamentalism, unwanted alliances with Pakistan and China do not increase in Bangladesh.

Therefore, India presents Bangladesh as a responsible SAARC nation.  Alliances with terrorist organizations, separatist youth and their ISI are inimical to India's interests.  Therefore, from time to time India has tried to ensure that Bangladesh does not allow its land to be used for anti-India activities.

In this sequence, India has concluded Extradition Treaty and Mutual Legal Assistance Agreement with Bangladesh to prevent drug trafficking.  India has spoken of supporting Bangladesh in making it tangible.  It is clear that India considers the developmental partnership with Bangladesh as the mainstay to guide its bilateral relations.
