Earlier, there was uncertainty over the meeting after violent clashes between Indian and Chinese soldiers in the Galvan Valley. In a face-to-face clash with Chinese soldiers, 20 Indian military personnel were martyred. This confrontation incident has made the already fragile situation on the border between the two neighboring countries more tense.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Anurag Shrivastava said that the meeting will discuss the coronavirus epidemic and issues related to global security and financial stability. Citing traditions, the sources said the meeting is unlikely to discuss the deadlock between India and China on the border as bilateral issues are not normally discussed in the trilateral dialogue format.

Russia has already said that India and China should resolve border disputes through negotiations and positive relations between the two countries are essential for regional stability. The three foreign ministers are expected to discuss in detail the emerging political situation in Afghanistan after the US reached a peace deal with the Taliban in February.

The RIC Foreign Ministers meeting may also discuss important connectivity projects in the region, including the 7,200 km long International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) connecting India, Iran, Afghanistan and Central Asia to Europe.
