The division is expected to become the first choice in the country to launch a major anti-terrorist campaign both within and outside the country. It will cover about 3,000 commandos from Army Special Forces, Naval Marine Commando Unit (MARCOS) and Air Force Garuda. At present, special forces of three divisions of defense work differently under the different command structure.

Proposal for the formation of Unified Special Forces to handle the important domains of cyberspace, space, and special operations was proposed last year. The government then said that if not three, at least two divisions will be established. Earlier this month, the Ministry of Defense has approved the appointment of Rear Admiral Mohit Gupta as Head of Defense Cyber Agency (DCA).

Explain that AFSOD is not the first joint division of the Armed Forces. This is the first Special Force Division. The Andaman and Nicobar Command, established in 2011, is a tie service theater command located in Port Blair.
