Farewell to CDS: Daughters gave Final Farewell to Parents, PM Modi Paid Tribute

The country's first Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat died in a chopper crash on Wednesday. Apart from hi, his wife Madhulika, and 13 army personnel and officers were on board in this chopper.

Daughters of CDS General Bipin Rawat and Madhulika Rawat, Kritika and Tarini, immersed the ashes of their parents in the Ganga River in Haridwar today. The daughters collected the ashes of their parents from Brar Square crematorium in Delhi Cantonment this morning. The ashes of CDS Rawat and Madhulika were kept in a vase and were coved with red cloth. With moist eyes, the daughters bowed to the ashes of their parents. After this, they left for Haridwar with the ashes.

At 6 in the morning, a special army aircraft from Delhi had left for Jolly Grant carrying the ashes of CDS Bipin Rawat. The ashes were brought to Haridwar by road from Jolly Grant airport. Their ashes were immersed in the Ganges amidst Vedic chanting at VIP Ghat at around 11 am. Senior Superintendent of Police Dr. Yogendra Singh Rawat told that all necessary preparations had been completed and security was also being taken care of.

Prayer for the peace of soul

Nehru Yuva Kendra prayed for the peace of the soul of CDS General Bipin Rawat through a tribute meeting. On this occasion, the office bearers of Narayan Dutt Tiwari Youth Hostel paid tribute by garlanding his portrait. Nehru Yuva Kendra President Deepa Joshi said- ‘This is an irreparable loss to the county; India has lost an experienced military officer.’

‘Great Son of India’

System Officer Pandit Padma Prakash Sharma said that General Bipin Rawat was a great son of India and his contribution to the defense of the country will always be remembered. Subhash Ghai, Jitendra Arora, Vibhor Chaudhary, Kamalpreet Kaur, Indermohan Barthwal, Lalit, Zakir Hussain, and others were present on this occasion.

On Saturday, while inaugurating the Saryu Canal National Project, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to the chief of Defense Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat.

He said- ‘The passing away of India's first CDS General Bipin Rawat is a loss for every patriot. He was brave and worked hard to make the armed forces of the country self-reliant, the country is witness to this. Wherever he is now, he will watch the county moving forward from there’.

Brigadier LS Lidder, Lt Col Harjinder Singh, Wing Commander PS Chauhan, Squadron Leader K Singh, Naik Gursewak Singh, Naik Jitendra Kumar, Lance Naik Vivek Kumar, Lance Naik B. Sai Teja, Junior Warrant Officer Das, Junior Warrant Officer A Pradeep and Havildar Satpal were on board. The lone survivor of the helicopter crash is Group Captain Varun Singh, who is currently in critical condition and is undergoing treatment in Bengaluru.
