Australia on Friday announced to increase fines to people breaching lockdown rules in the state of New South Wales as the state has been battling Delta variant. According to the officials, Sydney, the state capital, heads into its eighth week of lockdown. Last month, Premier Gladys Berejiklian called on the federal government to provide more coronavirus vaccines for the worst-affected suburbs west and south of Sydney.

An increase in cases of local infection has been registered in the country's majority state of New South Wales. In the last 24 hours, 466 new infected have been reported here. Here the police impose a fine of 5000 Australian dollars ($3,700) for violating the rules applicable under the lockdown. This information was given by Premier Gladys Berejiklian here. He told, 'We have to accept that today is the worst day in New South Wales since the start of the pandemic. I wish things were getting better, but this is the nature of the Delta variant. We will get through this, but September and October are going to be very difficult. This is literally a war, and we've known we've been in a war for some time, but never to this extent."
