The Indian Medical Association (IMA) on Saturday informed that over 400 doctors have died in the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. Of these, 100 fatalities have been reported from Delhi, followed by Bihar (96) and Uttar Pradesh (41).
The state-wise data of IMA revealed that as many as 31 doctors died in Gujarat, 20 in Telangana, 16 in West Bengal and Odisha, while Maharashtra reported deaths of 15 doctors during second wave. Meanwhile, the Central Government and the State Governments are taking strict measures to contain the spread of this deadly virus.
India has been witnessing a gradual decrease in daily coronavirus cases. In the last two weeks, the infection rate has dipped by about 10 percent. According to the latest data from the Union Health Ministry, India reported 2,57,299 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours taking the cumulative count of the cases to 2,62,89,290. With 4,194 deaths in the last 24 hours, the death toll has increased to 2,95,525.
The country also witnessed 3,57,630 recoveries in the last 24 hours taking the cumulative recoveries to 2,30,70,365. The total doses of the COVID-19 vaccine administered stand at over 19,33,72,819 crore, informed the health ministry.
There has been a steady decline in active cases of coronavirus in the country. According to the latest data of the Union Health Ministry, in the last 24 hours, the active cases in the country have been reduced by 1,04,525. Meanwhile, the number of active cases in the country stands at 29,20,221. According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 20,66,285 samples were tested across the country on Friday. Meanwhile, a total of 32,64,84,155 samples have been tested so far till May 21.
