Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju expressed confidence that India will be named among the top-10 nations of the 2028 Olympics. During a live chat on Instagram with table tennis player Manika Batra, Rijiju said that they are not just speaking, but preparations have been started in this direction.

According to the Sports Minister, 'The Olympic Games of 2024 are part of our mid-term goal. Our main goal is the 2028 Olympics. When I became Sports Minister, we had limited scope. The chances of winning the medal were small. In 2024, we will have a team that will bring more medals than before, but I am confident that in 2028 we will be in the top-10 and preparations have already started.'

According to Rijiju, 'Junior athletes are future champions, the game is being planned only keeping them in mind. It takes four to eight years to prepare the world champion and it has already started, the government has taken special care of junior athletes even during the lockdown. We have not kept a single rupee outstanding.'
