India Administers Record 86.16 Lakh COVID-19 Vaccine Doses in a Single Day

India administered over 86 lakh coronavirus vaccine shots on Monday, the highest-ever single day vaccination in the world so far, the Union Health Ministry said on Tuesday. As the new vaccination policy commenced from Monday, in a landmark achievement, 86,16,373 have been administered on the first day of the new phase.

Madhya Pradesh on Monday administered 16,73,858 COVID-19 vaccine doses, the highest ever among states in the country in a single day so far. On the historic feat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated those who got vaccinated and lauded all frontline warriors. Pm tweeted, "Today's record-breaking vaccination numbers are gladdening. The vaccine remains our strongest weapon to fight COVID-19. Congratulations to those who got vaccinated and kudos to all the front-line warriors working hard to ensure so many citizens got the vaccine. Well done India!"

Over 28 crores doses administered so far:

So far, 28.87 crore vaccine doses administered in India under the nationwide vaccination drive. Under the centralized vaccination policy, the Centre will procure 75 percent of vaccines from the open market and give them to states for free distribution to inoculate all citizens above the age of 18. It will also handle the 25 percent vaccination that was with states till now under the liberalised plan announced earlier.

Meanwhile, India reported 42,640 new cases in the last 24 hours, remaining less than 50,000 in 91 days. The present active caseload has also declined to 6,62,521, less than 7 lakh after 79 days. The daily positivity rate of India has remained below 5 percent for the 15th consecutive day, recorded 2.56 per cent during the last 24 hours.
