First Case of Coronavirus Reported in NDRF, Sub-Inspector found Infected

An officer of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been found infected with the corona virus and this is the first case of infection in the force. Officials said on Friday that an officer of sub-inspector rank was on leave and went to a doctor for treatment of some other disease, after which he was tested for corona virus infection.

The NDRF officer was admitted to a separate residence ward of the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) referral hospital in Greater Noida on Thursday. He said that the officer is stationed at the force's headquarters here and was appointed from the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).

The NDRF is a strong 12 battalion force of the central government to deal with the disaster and more than 40 of its teams are currently engaged in relief and rescue operations in Odisha and West Bengal due to cyclone 'Amphan', whereas More than 400 infected personnel of CAPF (CRPF, ITBP, BSF, CISF and SSB) are still under treatment and seven have died.

A soldier of the NSG, an anti-terrorism specific force, was also found to be infected earlier this month, whereas five CAPFs, NSGs and NDRFs work under the command of the Union Home Ministry.
