Coronavirus pandemic continues wreaking havoc worldwide. According to worldometer.com, 172,946,180 cases of coronavirus have been reported so far. Of these, 155,670,554 people have been cured, while 3,718,601 people have died.
Meanwhile, Top U.S. infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci has asked China to release the medical records of Wuhan lab workers whose ailments might provide vital clues into whether COVID-19 first emerged as the result of a lab leak. He said, "I would like to see the medical records of the three people who are reported to have got sick in 2019. Did they really get sick, and if so, what did they get sick with?"
India has been witnessing a gradual decrease in daily coronavirus cases. According to the latest data from the Union Health Ministry, India reported 1,32,364 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours taking the cumulative count of the cases to 2,85,74,350. With 2713 deaths in the last 24 hours, the death toll has increased to 3,40,702.
The country also witnessed 2,07,071 recoveries in the last 24 hours taking the cumulative recoveries to 2,65,97,655. With this, the country's recovery rate has increased to 93%. On the other hand, India's mortality rate stands at 1.19%.
The Delta variant- first identified in India, is highly infectious and fast-spreading and was responsible for the second Covid-19 wave in the country, according to a government study. According to the study of INSACOG and NCDC, the Delta (B.1.617.2) variant has 50% higher transmission rate than Alpha (B.1.17) and the risk of breakthrough infections post Covid-19 vaccination is also high. But the scientists found no evidence of the role of the Delta variant in more deaths or the severity of cases not proved.
