Coronavirus pandemic continues wreaking havoc worldwide. According to worldometer.com, so far 165,617,499 COVID-19 cases reported. Of these, 144,671,011 people have been cured, while 3,433,373 people have died.
On the other hand, Dr. Anthony Fauci, Chief Advisor to US President Joe Biden and Director of the US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), said the vaccines available in the United States are effective against the deadly variant that was first detected in India.
US President Joe Biden on Monday announced the US will share an additional 20 million shots of COVID-19 vaccines with other countries in the coming six weeks. With this, the total number of such shots now increased to 80 million.
At a news conference, Biden said, "Over the next 6 weeks, the US will send 80 million doses overseas. That represents 13 % of the vaccines produced by the US by June end. This will be more vaccine doses than any country has actually shared till date, five times more than any other country. More than Russia and China, which have donated 15 million doses."
India has been witnessing a gradual decrease in daily coronavirus cases. According to the latest data from the Union Health Ministry, India reported 2,76,070 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours taking the cumulative count of the cases to 2,57,72,400. With 3,874 deaths in the last 24 hours, the death toll has increased to 2,87,122.
The country also witnessed 3,69,077 recoveries in the last 24 hours taking the cumulative recoveries to 2,23,55,440. The total doses of the COVID-19 vaccine administered stand at over 18,70,09,792 crore, informed the health ministry.
