AIFF Working with FIFA to Choose New Dates to Host U-17 Women’s World Cup: Praful Patel

On Friday, All India Football Federation (AIFF) President Praful Patel said that the federation is in discussion with FIFA to finalize the new dates of the under-17 World Cup as well as to maintain the original age criteria of the participating players. The tournament was to be held in India in November which has been postponed due to COVID-19. Patel said that the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) is working closely with FIFA to announce 'possible dates as soon as possible'.

Patel tweeted, "I am happy to share that we are working with FIFA to choose a new and earliest possible timeline to host the U-17 Women's World Cup. The LOC and FIFA are working in close collaboration to finalize new dates keeping health and safety a priority."

Earlier, Patel said, "We are also in discussions with FIFA to keep the age criteria of U-17 Women's World Cup the same as originally planned, so that all the players who have been working very hard to prepare for the tournament,do not miss an opportunity to play due to the postponement. "

The tournament was to be held from November 2 to 21 and the matches were to be played in Kolkata, Guwahati, Bhubaneswar, Ahmedabad, and Navi Mumbai. 16 teams were to participate in the tournament in which India qualified as hosts. The Indian U-17 women's team is participating in this tournament for the first time.
