According to the New Motor Vehicle Act, now a person can apply from one year before the expiry of one year to one year after the license expires. If there is more delay then test will have to be given again. Before amending the act in September, any person could renew his license for five years by paying nominal fees. That is, after five years, driving test had to be given.

54-year-old Arun Kumar says that if someone forgot to renew the license, it does not mean that he forgot to drive in the same year.
