Testing of Driving License is Necessary if it has Expired

Ayushi Sharma

If your driving license expired a year ago and you have not renewed yet, then get ready for the test. The first test was compulsory only for those who had not renewed their license for five years. In the new motor vehicle act, this period has been reduced to one year.

58-year-old Anil Aggarwal was waiting for his turn to take the test at Sarai Kalekhon. He said, 'Can anyone forget driving even after 35 years of driving? With no renewal of license, no one forgets to drive in a year. "People feel that they have been cheated but it is a rule that after the deadline is over, the license will not be renewed without being given a test," said a Transport Department official.

According to the New Motor Vehicle Act, now a person can apply from one year before the expiry of one year to one year after the license expires. If there is more delay then test will have to be given again. Before amending the act in September, any person could renew his license for five years by paying nominal fees. That is, after five years, driving test had to be given.

54-year-old Arun Kumar says that if someone forgot to renew the license, it does not mean that he forgot to drive in the same year. Today expert drivers also have to take tests in line and have to wait for several days for this. An official said, "We do not mean to say that someone will forget driving in a year, but the shape of roads is constantly changing. In such a situation, it is necessary to know whether anyone is aware of the new rules and roads.
