The case of 108 kg gold swindling from a jeweler of Gujarat by Punjab National Bank (PNB) scam accused Mehul Choksi has reached the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court has allowed the jeweler of Gujarat to make public the notice issued to Mehul in the newspapers.

While hearing this case, Justice Deepak Gupta in the Supreme Court said that he has read in the newspaper that he is in Antigua and efforts are being made to bring him back. The apex court asked the petitioner to maintain hope. The court asked Choksi to give the notice issued to her last house and newspapers.

Case

In fact, the Supreme Court is hearing the petition of a jeweler Digvijay Singh Jadeja, seeking criminal action against Choksi. The jeweler had accused the watchdog of cheating 108 kg of gold and lodged an FIR, but the Gujarat High Court quashed it. On 2 February 2018, the Supreme Court issued a notice to Choksi on filing a petition against this order of the High Court. He has not responded to the notice since then.

Where is Choksi 

Significantly, Mehul Choksi acquired citizenship of the Caribbean island of Antigua in November 2017, before the Punjab National Bank (PNB) scandal was revealed and has been there ever since. The main accused in the PNB scam is jeweler Nirav Modi's uncle Mehul Choksi. The scam was revealed in January 2018.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had filed a case against Mehul Choksi and Nirav Modi in February 2018 in the PNB scam. Both fled from the country before the scam was revealed at the end of January 2018.

Recently, Antigua Prime Minister Gaston Brown has given a big statement about Mehul Choksi. Describing Mehul Choksi as a fraud, Gaston Brown has said that Indian investigative agencies are free to come to Antigua and interrogate Mehul Choksi.
