The government is bringing new rules regarding deepfakes. Union Minister Rajiv Chandrashekhar said today i.e. on January 16 that new IT rules will be notified in 7-8 days.

He held 2 meetings on deepfakes. There are big provisions in the new IT rules regarding misinformation and deepfakes. It is mandatory for everyone to follow it, otherwise action will be taken.

Earlier on November 23, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav had said that 'Deepfake has emerged as a new threat to democracy.' The Union Minister had said that all social media platforms have accepted the danger of deepfakes and its seriousness. Vaishnav had said that the responsibility of the creators of deepfake and the platform hosting it will be fixed.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also expressed concern over deepfakes. A deepfake video of his came. Recently, a deep fake video of former cricketer Sachin Tendulkar went viral. In this, he was shown promoting the gaming app 'Skyward Aviator Quest'. Sachin had said- This video is fake and made to deceive.

Rashmika Mandanna's deepfake video went viral in November

In November last year, a deepfake video of Rashmika Mandanna went viral on social media, in which Rashmika's face was morphed neatly onto the face of an influencer using AI technology. Thousands of people on social media considered this fake video of Rashmika to be real because the expressions seen in it looked absolutely real.

However, this woman was not Rashmika but a girl named Zara Patel, whose face was changed to that of Rashmika. A journalist of ALT News had revealed this after the deepfake video went viral.
