Jewellery industry has received great relief. The Election Commission has ordered to return 149 kg of gold jewellery which was seized at Coimbatore late last month. This incident happened at a time when the first phase of the seven-phase polling in the country has been completed. The seven phases of the Lok Sabha elections are ending on May 19.

On the instructions of the Election Commission, after the confiscation of gold/sarafa consignments across the country, the local police had damaged the Sarafa Industries and they were in fury. The industry has been claiming that all these incidents happen despite all the necessary documents.

In a special case, local officials seized 149 kg gold ornaments in Coimbatore in Tamilnadu, referring to the violation of the code of conduct in the latter part of last month, which was returned on Thursday.

Akhil Bharatiya Ratna and Jewellery Domestic Council Chairman Anant Padmanabhan said that Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra ordered returning the seized Jewellery in Coimbatore.

The Council did not confirm the number of such incidents seized or the quantity of Jewellery seized. He said so many such incidents had happened and the most seizure was there in Coimbatore.
