Delhi Metro is Planning to have it’s Third ‘Triple Exchange’ Metro Station

Ayushi Sharma

Delhi Metro is going to get its second triple interchange station in the coming time. Azadpur station will be the second triple interchange station by 2023. Kashmiri Gate Station is the first and the only triple interchange station of Delhi Metro. The triple interchange here means that there are three different metro lines on it.

Currently, Yellow (Huda City Center-Samaypur Badli) and Pink Line (Majlis Park-Shiv Vihar) are running from Azadpur. In the fourth phase, a metro station with Janakpuri West-RK Puram Marg corridor will also be at Azadpur. It is an extension of the Metro Magenta Line (Botanical Garden-Janakpuri West). The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has started work for this elevated station.

Azadpur may become the second triple interchange but it will not be able to match the Kashmiri Gate. The Kashmiri Gate is at the forefront of daily commuters. There are 2.5 lakh people climbing every day. Kashmiri Gate is said to be the busiest station of Delhi Metro. At the same time, 15 thousand passengers go daily on Azadpur. After Phase-4, their number can reach 45 thousand. Lajpat Nagar can also be made a triple interchange after Azadpur.
