Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Monday that all banks are engaged in ensuring that their branches are open and have money in ATMs and ATMs function properly. Along with this, she praised the efforts of the bank workers amid the ongoing lockdown in the country. She tweeted, "All banks are working to ensure that the branches are open and have money in ATMs and they are working."

The Finance Minister also said that banking correspondents are actively engaged in their work. She said that social distancing is being taken care of in banks and sanitizers are being provided on a need basis.

The Finance Minister had a detailed discussion with the heads of banks earlier on Saturday. Heads of banks assured them that customers would continue to get banking services without any hindrance and all branches of banks would open. The Finance Minister instructed the heads of banks to ensure adequate cash at branches, ATM and banking correspondent levels.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a nationwide lockdown last week. Due to this, only essential services will be operated until April 14 in the country. Banking also has the status of compulsory services.
