Madhya Pradesh: Underground Tunnel of Narmada Valley Project Collapses in Katni, 9 Workers Stranded

A major accident took place in the Katni district of Madhya Pradesh late Saturday evening. According to the information, the underground tunnel being built here under the Narmada Valley project has collapsed, due to which many workers were trapped inside. In this regard, the local administration said that 9 labourers were trapped due to the collapse of the tunnel under construction. This accident happened in the tunnel coming out from under NH-30 of the Sleemanabad area. Administration officials are present on the spot and the rescue work is going on by the agencies.

Rescue operation is going on by SDERF

It has been informed from the administration that 5 out of 9 labourers trapped in the debris have been rescued due to the collapse of an under-construction tunnel of Bargi Underground Canal in Sleemanabad of Katni district, rescue operation is going on by the team of State Disaster Emergency Response Force (SDERF).

According to officials, all the four laborers trapped in the tunnel are alive and the SDERF team is trying to reach them by digging a shaft with necessary equipment. District Collector and SP are present at the spot to supervise the rescue operation.

CM Shivraj Singh tweeted

Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan tweeted that saddened by the news of workers being buried during the construction work of the canal at Sleemanabad in Katni district. It is a matter of relief that some workers have been taken out safely. Relief and rescue work is on. Madhya Pradesh Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Rajesh Rajora is also monitoring the rescue operation from the state secretariat. According to an official, the incident happened late Saturday evening.
