These Indian Pharma Company gets Approval to Make COVID Drug

Approval has also been given by DCGI for the production and export of active pharmaceutical ingredients in India.

Biophore India Pharmaceuticals has received a license from the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) to manufacture Favipiravir, a drug of Covid-19. This drug is used in mild to moderate cases of COVID-19. DCGI has also approved the production and export of active pharmaceutical ingredients in India. Biophore India stated that it has also received approval to export APIs in collaboration with a local partner in Turkey and furthermore, the company is in talks with several Indian partners to commercialize the product in India. At the same time, negotiations are on with exporters of Bangladesh and Egypt for its export.

Follow US and EU Regulations

Manik Reddy Pullagurla, Founder and Chief Scientist Officer (CSO) of Biophore, said that the Covid-19 pandemic emphasized the need for pharmaceutical companies to quickly establish and develop effective solutions without compromising on safety. We have ensured that our Favipiravir meets the highest standards of quality. "Our manufacturing facilities follow US and EU regulations and we have stringent internal import controls and quality checks to ensure this," he said.

Countries who approved

Favipiravir is an antiviral agent that was initially discovered and developed because of its activity against another RNA (ribonucleic acid) virus, the influenza virus. Apart from India and Turkey, it has already been approved for use against COVID-19 in Russia and parts of the Middle East while advanced phase trials are currently underway in other parts of the world.

Biophore CEO Jagdish Babu Rangisetti said that all the materials have been developed in-house to make Favipiravir. Jagdish Babu said, "We are confident that this API will help our country to move forward in our united fight against Covid-19.
