Sulakshana Pandit was born on 12 July 1954 in Raigarh, Chhattisgarh. She started singing at the age of nine. Sulakshana sang her first song for the film in 1967. During this time she also started getting offers for acting in films. In 1975, she made her debut with the film 'Uljhan'. The iconic Sanjeev Kapoor was cast in the lead role opposite her.

Sulakshana Pandit's family

Sulakshana Pandit's sister is Vijeta Pandit, who started her career with the film Love Story. Vijeta was married to musician Adesh Srivastava. He is the brother of famous music directors Jatin and Lalit. Pandit Jasraj was Adesh's uncle and today's popular names Shraddha Pandit, Shweta Pandit and actor Yash Pandit are his relatives.

Started the journey of singing with Lata Mangeshkar

Being from musical family background, she was related to musical notes from birth. The audience first heard her voice with Lata Mangeshkar. The song was from the 1967 film Takdeer – Saat Samandar Paar Se, Gudiya Se Bazar Se. Of course, the children of today's generation also get to hear different versions of this song. After this, she worked with the stalwarts of the music industry like Hemant Kumar, Kishore Kumar. Sulakshana Pandit has sung duets with almost every major singer under the direction of every renowned musician. She continued to sing in languages ​​like Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati, Oriya, etc. She released her Ghazal album in 1980 with the title of Juzbaat.

Sulakshana fell in love with Sanjeev

Sulakshana was in owe of Sanjeev Kapoor's solemn & dignified nature and immediately fell in love with him, but during this time Kumar was after Hema Malini. When Sanjeev Kumar proposed to Hema Malini for marriage, she turned it down because she was in love with Dharmendra. Sanjeev Kumar was heartbroken after Hema's refusal. He and Sulakshana had become very good friends by then. He used to share everything with her.

Sulakshana expressed her Love

When Sanjeev Kumar was separated from Hema Malini, Sulakshana herself expressed her love to him, But fate has something else decided for her. He also rejected Sulakshana after Hema refused. After the rejection of Sanjeev Kumar. Her life was completely ruined after the rejection. She stopped acting in films and broke away relations from the outside world.

Sulakshana lost her mental balance

Sulakshana started living with her mother in a flat in Mumbai. Despite being with her mother, her condition did not improve and she went into depression. When Sanjeev Kumar died in 1985, she went into shock. It is said that she lost her mental balance and did not even recognize anyone. This was disclosed by Sulakshana herself in an interview in 1999.

Sulakshana had said, 'I went into depression after Sanjeev left. I almost killed myself but God willing that I was saved and I am living my life even today though I still haven't recovered from that shock. I have locked the door of my room and all day I just watch good movies, listen to songs so that I can face life and this world. After the passing of the parents, Sulakshana Pandit started living with her sister Vijeta Pandit.
