Telangana: Gay Couple got Married with the Blessings of their Parents

A gay couple got married for the first time in Hyderabad's Telangana state on Saturday. 34-year-old Abhay Dange and 31-year-old Supriyo Chakraborty got married in the presence of their friends and family members. Both were dating each other for eight years.

Homosexuality was decriminalized by the Supreme Court in 2018

Let us tell you that in India, gay couples cannot register their marriage under the law, although homosexuality was decriminalized by the Supreme Court in 2018. Both of them tied the knot, taking forward their 10-year long relationship. Speaking on the occasion, Supriyo said that their marriage has given a strong message to everyone that one does not need permission to be happy. Gay men are believed to be Telangana's first gay couple.

Friend Sophia David took care of entire marrige

Let us tell you that out of these two, Supriyo is 31 years old and Dang is 34 years old. The two first tied each other's ring at a resort in Hyderabad and then took a vow to perform together in the marriage ceremony. Significantly, the entire management of the wedding ceremony was done by the friend of the gay couple, Sophia David, who comes from the LGBTQ community. Supriyo told PTI that there was a two-day wedding ceremony on December 17 and 18.

Abhay told that everyone gave love and respect in marriage

Talking about her marriage to Abhay, Supriyo said: “Today, sitting here with my husband amongst my friends and family feels overwhelmed. She said, “It feels great to call Abhay my life partner. Accepting, loving, and blessing our loved ones is a blessing and we are grateful for that, on this day and every day of our lives."

Mehndi and Haldi ceremony and Sangeet ceremony were also done

Supriyo Chakraborty and Abhay Dange exchanged vows and rings at a "promise ceremony" on 18 December. Both Punjabi and Bengali traditions were played in the ceremony held on the outskirts of Hyderabad. Before the wedding, she also did Mehendi and Haldi ceremony and the sangeet ceremony. The two first met 8 years ago on a dating app. A month after meeting Abhay, Supriyo introduced him to his mother. While she was initially surprised and it took her a few days to accept the relationship, Supriyo said, she "then accepted me wholeheartedly."

Both gay couples do jobs

Let us tell me that both Supriyo and Abhay work. One works in the field of IT and the other for hospitality. The two met in the year 2012 through an online dating app and have been living together since then. Supriyo said that once same-sex marriage is legalized in the country, he will also get his marriage registered.
