Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has sharply denounced a heartbreaking viral video in which a tribal woman is allegedly subjected to physical violence and public humiliation by her husband and in-laws in the state's Pratapgarh area.
Gehlot warned that the perpetrators would face prompt and stern retribution.
Gehlot took to the social networking platform X (formerly known as Twitter) to express his concern and resolve to address the matter as soon as possible.
He revealed that he had directed the Director General of Police to send the ADG Crime to the scene and take prompt and strict action.
Gehlot stated once more that such criminals have no place in a civilized society and that they would face legal consequences. He highlighted that the culprits will be apprehended quickly and prosecuted in a speedy court.
The horrifying occurrence, which occurred in Nichalkota hamlet of Pahada Gram Panchayat under the jurisdiction of Dhariyavad police station, was brought to light by a video circulated on social media.
The victim, who had been married for a year, was reportedly subjected to physical assault before being stripped naked and paraded through the hamlet for approximately one kilometre.
Umesh Mishra, Director General of Police (DGP), explained the police response to the incident. When the film was discovered, police officers including the district Superintendent of Police, the Inspector-General of Police, and the Station House Officer (SHO) rushed to the area.
It was later revealed that the woman had been kidnapped and assaulted by her husband prior to the humiliating incident. Women from her husband's family were said to be participating as well.
DGP Mishra promised that all those involved in the event, including those from the in-law's side, would be captured as soon as possible. He verified the arrest of three people in connection with the investigation.
According to Pratapgarh SP Amit Kumar, these criminals were hurt while attempting to elude the police and are currently seeking medical care in the district hospital.
