In Ajmer, Rajasthan, a collision occurred between a passenger train and a freight train, leading to chaos in the area. The incident took place near Madar Railway Station in Ajmer between the Sabarmati-Agra Cantt Superfast Express and a freight train.
The accident was so severe that the engine of the Sabarmati-Agra Cantt Superfast Express, along with four coaches, derailed.
The mishap occurred around 1:10 AM near Madar Station when the freight train and the express train came onto the same track.
At the time of the accident, there were thousands of passengers on board the train. After derailing from the tracks, the train veered considerably off the railway line and caused significant damage to the electric poles.
Railway officials arrived at the scene quite sometime after the accident and initiated rescue and relief operations. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in this incident.
After the incident, passengers were interviewed, revealing that the train departed from Ajmer Railway Station around 12:55 AM and the mishap happened a few kilometres into the journey.
During the accident, passengers experienced a strong jolt, causing sleeping children, women, and elderly individuals to fall from their seats.
Following the accident, passengers expressed dissatisfaction with the delayed arrival of railway officials at the scene.
After the accident, some passengers chose to walk towards the city. Subsequently, those passengers who remained near the train were safely accommodated in a secure coach around 3:16 AM and were sent to Ajmer Junction.
Officials who arrived at the scene informed that investigations are underway to determine the causes of the accident. Efforts are being made to clear the tracks.
ADRM Baldev Ram stated that preliminary investigations have revealed that the collision occurred due to both trains entering the same track.
The train accident has disrupted rail traffic. The railway authorities have cancelled six trains operating on this route and changed the route of two trains. Currently, railway officials and employees are engaged in repairing the tracks.
