In the city of Thasra in Gujarat's Kheda district, a stone-pelting incident occurred during the Shravan Shobhayatra procession on Friday.
Several individuals, including three police officers, were injured in the incident. It is reported that tension has risen between two communities in the area following the incident.
According to sources, additional forces were called in from the district to maintain control over the situation, with a significant deployment in the city.
In the stone-pelting incident, a Sub-Inspector, two Constables, and several others were injured. The police are investigating whether the stone-pelting was premeditated or a spontaneous event.
Kheda's Police Superintendent Rajesh Gadhia explained that every year, on the last day of the 'Shravan' month, a 'Shobhayatra' is taken out from the Shiva temple.
This year, around 700 to 800 people participated in it. As soon as the procession reached a particular area, some anti-social elements initiated stone-pelting.
The police present at the scene immediately took control of the situation. Police forces from the entire district have been deployed in the area to prevent any further incidents.
The police are examining videos of the incident to identify and apprehend the culprits.
Police Superintendent Gadhia mentioned that efforts are being made to engage with the leaders of both communities in the area to maintain peace.
An investigation into the incident's video footage is also underway. Authorities are working on identifying and apprehending those involved in the stone-pelting incident.
