Punjab Kings won by five wickets against Royal Challengers Bangalore to kick off their IPL 2022 campaign with a bang. The top order's superb batting and Odean Smith's 8-ball 25-run burst enabled Punjab Kings knock down the 206-run goal in 19 overs. Punjab chased down a target of more than 200 runs for the 4th straight in Indian Premier League history. In the process, Punjab Kings eclipsed Chennai Super Kings as the side with the most successful 200-plus run chases.
Previous to the PBKS vs RCB IPL 2022 encounter, both Punjab and Chennai have chased down a 200+ run target three times. Punjab claimed the outright record on Sunday night, blowing RCB apart with the some power hitting.
The Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals have both pursued targets of more than 200.
On Sunday, Punjab had Odean Smith to credit for a thrilling chase. A strong start by Mayank Agarwal and Shikhar Dhawan had provided the groundwork for PBKS' pursuit. Bhanuka Rajapaksa smashed 43 off 22 balls to keep the excellent job going.
RCB, on the other hand, fought their way back by taking wickets, with Rajapaksa, Raj Angad Bawa, and Liam Livingstone all falling in short succession.
Odean Smith opened the gates by peppering the boundaries just when it appeared like PBKS had much too much to accomplish in the final five overs.
Anuj Rawat had the opportunity to remove the West Indian, but he dropped a sitter in the deep, perhaps costing RCB the game.
