Chennai Super Kings, the four-time IPL champions, unveiled their new IPL-15 jersey on Wednesday. In a video, CSK captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni unboxed the new shirt, which has a camouflage design on the shoulders and four stars above the franchise's symbol. CSK added camouflage to the shirt last year in honor of the Indian armed services. The four stars represent their four IPL championships, which they won in 2010, 2011, 2018, and 2021, respectively.
The new jersey also features the logo of CSK's principal sponsor, TVS Euro grip, a tyre producer for two and three-wheelers. "The Chennai Super Kings squad is happy and honored to bear the emblem of a renowned, famous, and heritage brand: TVS Euro grip on its shirt," stated KS Viswanathan, CEO of CSK.
"We added the camouflage on the shoulders last year as a mark of respect for our soldiers and our captain's army ties, and it also worked well with the yellow. We've also added camouflage to the collar on the back of the shirt."
CSK will meet Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the opening match of the IPL 2022 on March 26 at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium. Chennai and Kolkata clashed in the final of the 2021 version, with the Southern Giants coming out on top on a lucky night. MS Dhoni, Chennai's cult icon, will skipper the franchise once again in the 2022 season.
CSK revealed their new IPL 2022 jersey in a social media post before the season's start. As can be seen, there isn't much to differentiate their new jersey from the previous one, much like the team's organization. Despite a large auction, Chennai has retained the majority of their previous IPL lineup for this season of the tournament, and they have retained far more players from their prior IPL roster for this year of the competition.
