ODI Century On Birthday: The men in blue side are yet to lose a one-day international match in this year’s ODI World Cup 2023.
India performed extremely well in yesterday’s game versus South Africa which was played in Eden Gardens in Kolkata and they made it looked like a one-sided contest, which has helped the Indian Team to stay in the first spot with 16 points.
The host of this year’s ODI World Cup 2023 team India won this encounter by a mammoth margin of 243 runs. India piled up 327 runs on the board after they won the toss and opted to bat first and the in-form bowlers of India showed their class once again as they bundled out another good batting powerhouse side cheaply.
The South African batters and bowlers couldn’t do much in yesterday’s game. The Proteas conceded more runs with the white cherry in hand and their batsmen managed just 83 on the board when they were asked to chase a huge score of 327 runs.
South Africa is in the second spot and they have qualified for the semis as well.
There have been just three Indian batters who have achieved the rare feat of scoring an ODI Century on their birthday.
Today, in this segment we will name all of those three players from the men in blue side who have reached the three-figure mark on their special day -
The first Indian batter to score an ODI Century on his Birthday is Vinod Kambli. The Mumbai-born cricketer played a knock of unbeaten 100 runs versus England in Jaipur.
India got to 223 runs because of a magical century by Kambli. Sadly this ton from Vinod ended in a losing cause on his special day as England chased down that target and also won the match by four wickets.
The God Of Cricket has amassed tons of runs and he has also slammed 100 international centuries to his name. But very few of us might know that one of the century was scored on his birthday.
Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar was the second cricket batter from Team India to score an ODI Century On Birthday.
Sachin’s ODI Century On Birthday came versus the mighty team of the Aussies and that too when the men in blue side were asked to chase down a target of 273 runs from their allotted fifty overs quota in a final of a tournament which was played at Sharjah International Stadium.
In the last match of the Coca-Cola Cup, the Master Blaster single-handedly guided India to a famous win.
Sachin scored 134 runs and India won that match by six wickets with nine deliveries to spare.
The Master Blaster was also awarded the player of the match award for his amazing innings.
The King of Cricket celebrated his 35th birthday in style in the yesterday’s match against South Africa at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
India was able to pile up 327 runs in that game against the Proteas because of Virat Kohli’s unbeaten knock of 101 runs from 121 deliveries. King Kohli is just the third Indian batter to score an ODI Century on his birthday.
Virat was also helped by Quinton de Kock in that game. The South African wicketkeeper dropped The King when he was on 36 runs.
Kohli and Iyer even snitched a partnership which allowed Team India to get back on track after Shubman Gill was out for 23 runs. Shreyas scored 77 runs and Virat was the top scorer of this game.
Virat has also equalled the century record of his hero Sachin Tendulkar. Now both iconic legends are on 49 centuries each. Sachin wants Virat to complete his 50 ODI centuries and go past him (Sachin) in the finals of this year’s ODI World Cup 2023. India will play their next game versus the Netherlands on 12th November 2023 in Bengaluru.
