The Lucknow Super Giants have qualified for the playoff berth for the second back-to-back time and this time they are without their regular skipper KL Rahul.
The Karnataka opener who also captained the LSG side last year and some of the matches this year was ruled out due to injury and Krunal Pandya, the senior member of this team is leading this team quite well till now.
Under Krunal Pandya, the LSG side won the two close matches. Their bowlers held the nerves to defend 164 runs against Mumbai Indians and they qualified for the playoff berth after they won the match against Kolkata Knight Riders by just one run.
These two narrow-margin wins for Krunal and his men will give them a lot of confidence.
But at the same time, they will need their batters and fast bowlers to come good. LSG won the previous two matches mainly because of their spinners.
The lower order has been doing well for them. However, runs are expected from the top three batters. Nicholas Pooran and Marcus Stoinis are in good form and LSG need them to do well in this game as well because a loss in this match will end the tournament for the Super Giants.
Naveen and the other fast bowlers leaked runs in the last game and that’s when Rinku Singh tried to steal another win for KKR. But again just like the game against MI, the LSG bowlers held their nerves and won that match by one run.
In the eliminator round, LSG will have to repeat their heroics from the last two games to stay in the hunt to qualify for the finals. Even if LSG wins this game then also they will have to face the loser of the qualifier one and after winning that game, then only the Super Giants will qualify for their maiden final of this tournament.
Rohit Sharma(c), Ishan Kishan(wk), Suryakumar Yadav, Cameron Green, Nehal Wadhera, Tim David, Chris Jordan, Jason Behrendorff, Piyush Chawla, Kumar Kartikeya and Akash Madhwal.
The MI team is in yet another playoff. Gujarat Titans made a way for the five-time champion side by winning their last league match against RCB on Sunday night.
Earlier on Sunday afternoon, MI also won their last league game against Sunrisers Hyderabad. In that game, Cameron Green scored a brilliant hundred and MI chased down yet another score of 200 and more runs in this season.
The batting looks good for MI and their batters are in decent nick. They just need to build on that good start that the openers provide.
MI lost their last match against LSG because the middle order was blown away by the LSG bowlers. Rohit and his men will not want to repeat that mistake again in this crucial game.
The main issue for the Blues is their bowling which hasn’t been that great. Their bowlers have conceded 200 and more runs when they have bowled first.
This could become a huge problem if the MI defend a score. The fast bowlers will have to strike in the powerplay overs and spinners too will have to come good in the middle overs.
MI and LSG both have played at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai before in this edition. They played against the home side, Chennai Super Kings and both teams lost their matches.
LSG has a better spin-bowling attack than MI. But Mumbai has a good batting lineup than the Super Giants. So this will be a neck-to-neck contest and MI is the favorite to win.
As we all know that the surface at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai assists spin bowlers. The fast bowlers can make an impact early.
But still, the spinners will rule this game and the team who plays the spin better can win this match.
The weather forecast is good for this game as the reports say that there will be no rain in Chennai.
