The on-field contest between India and Pakistan is the most significant battle overall.

The fans anticipate this high-intensity contest between the arch-rivals, and some claim that the India Vs Pakistan match is bigger than the Ashes series between Australia and England. That series is played in the red ball format after every two years.

One more reason why India and Pakistan matches are so highly awaited is that these two Asian teams don't play each other in any bilateral series across the formats, and both the teams meet only in the Asia Cup matches or ICC events like Champions Trophy, fifty Over World Cup and T20 World Cup.

But one more interesting fact is that India and Pakistan have not met each other in any finals in the Asia Cup till now, and in Asia Cup 2022 event, India's and Pakistan's first match of this 15th edition is against each other.

They will face off in Dubai, where Pakistan defeated the men in the blue side when they played in the T20 World Cup 2021 in the United Arab Emirates.

Today we shall recall the top moments of the Asia Cup clashes between Team India and Pakistan in the history of this tournament.

This will be a top five list, and looking at the overall record of India and Pakistan in the Asia Cup events, India had won eight matches while Pakistan has five wins to their name in 14 encounters.

The list starts with an all-round performance from the former Pakistani skipper Shoaib Malik. The men in green batted first in that encounter and posted 300 runs on the board despite getting a poor start.

But they got to this score only because of Shoaib Malik, who played an excellent knock of 143 runs. He also snitched two vital partnerships, which allowed the Pakistani team to be in the driver's seat.

India's response was not a great one while chasing this score. They were successfully restricted for just 241 runs in their fifty overs.

After his hefty contribution with the bat, Malik again was good with the ball. The former skipper picked up two crucial wickets and halted the run flow of Team India.

Shoaib got the vital scalps of Yuvraj Singh and the top scorer of India in that game, Sachin Tendulkar, who scored 78 runs. That allowed Pakistan to win the match by 59 runs, and Shoaib Malik earned a man of the match award.

India was asked to chase a target of 300 runs in the fifth match of the 2008 edition of the Asia Cup. Pakistan got to 299 runs because of 125 run knock played by Shoaib Malik.

In response, India lost their opener, Gautam Gambhir, for just nine runs. Then it was a fantastic partnership between Virender Sehwag and Suresh Raina that helped the men in blue to be on top of the game and win the match by six wickets.

Raina came at the crucial juncture where India couldn't afford to lose another wicket. Viru and Raina shared a mammoth partnership that never allowed the Pakistani bowlers to make a comeback. Their partnership of 198 runs brought the 300-run target in touching distance.

Sehwag scored 119 runs, and Suresh slammed 84 runs. Later Yuvraj and Dhoni finished the game in style with knocks of 48 and 26 runs, respectively.

This match was another thrilling encounter. But it ended in India’s favour in a do-or-die game for the Pakistani team. In the sixth match of the Asia Cup 2010 edition in Dambulla, Pakistan batted first and set up a score of 268 runs for India to win this encounter.

Salman Butt scored 74 runs with Malik, and Afridi also contributed to the Pakistani total.

In the run chase, Gautam Gambhir held the fort for India with the former Indian skipper, MS Dhoni. Gauti scored 83 runs, and Mahi Bhai slammed 56 runs in this run chase.

Later it was Suresh Raina who came to steady the ship after Gambhir and Dhoni were dismissed. But when Raina also returned to the pavilion, it was Harbhajan Singh and Praveen Kumar at the crease when India needed just two runs from the final two deliveries.

Shoaib Akhtar and Harbhajan Singh exchanged some heated words in the middle of the crease. This heated argument with the Pakistani pace bowler did the trick for the spin bowler of the Indian team, and Pakistan paid a heavy price for that.

Bhajji slammed Mohammad Amir for a huge six in the second last ball of the last over and sealed the match for India. The men in blue won the game by three wickets with one delivery to spare.

Virat Kohli played memorable innings when the Indian team needed it the most. Many believe that from this innings, Virat Kohli, the best run chaser, was born, and later, he excelled in many run chases for Team India.

Kohli and Sachin shared a much-needed partnership after Gautam Gambhir was out for a golden duck.

Kohli was batting with his hero and outclassed the master many times in this match. After Sachin was dismissed for 52 runs, Kohli went ahead with the current skipper, Rohit Sharma, and brought India closer to the mammoth target set by Pakistan.

Virat registered his highest individual score in the ODI format and also went past the highest score in the Asia Cup history. Due to his 183-run knock, India also registered a famous win in Bangladesh.

Boom Boom Afridi was on song in this match. The spin-bowling all-rounder from Pakistan took on another spin-bowling all-rounder of Team India, Ravichandran Ashwin.

While chasing a score of 246 runs, Pakistani batters were not in complete control of the run chase. Despite that, India couldn't seize the opportunity of winning another encounter against their arch-rivals.

Ashwin was asked to bowl the last over, and Shahid Afridi was on strike. The big hitter, Afridi, hits two massive sixes to seal the game for the men in green team.

Shahid scored 34 runs from 18 deliveries and allowed Pakistan to win this match by just one wicket.

Later Pakistan also clinched their second Asia Cup title in that season by beating the hosts of that edition, Bangladesh.
