ODI World Cup 2023: This year’s ODI World Cup 2023 was a treat to watch like all the previous editions. The batsmen were the ones who set this tournament on fire.
There were 40 batters who scored centuries in this fifty-overs competition from just 47 games played. The bowlers got very little assistance from the pitches and found it challenging to bowl on the batting-friendly surfaces of India.
Despite that, the bowlers did deliver in crunch moments for the respective teams and because of them this ODI World Cup 2023 was good to watch.
Only five bowlers managed to pick up a five-wicket haul in this tournament and one of them had picked three five-fers as well.
Today in this segment, we will bring the names of those five bowlers who have picked up a five-wicket haul in the ODI World Cup 2023 –
The spin bowling all-rounder from the team of New Zealand was the first bowler to pick up a five-wicket haul in this edition of the ODI World Cup 2023.
On the batting-friendly surfaces, Santner bowled magnificent spells for the Kiwis side. His best spell of this ODI World Cup 2023 came versus the Netherlands where he picked up the match figures of 5 for 59 in his full quota of ten overs.
The lead pace bowler of the men in green side, Shaheen Shah Afridi became the first fast bowler who picked up a five-wicket haul in this ODI World Cup 2023 and Afridi is also the only Pakistani bowler who achieved this feat in this tournament.
His best spell in this year’s ODI World Cup 2023 came in a losing cause against the Aussies. He picked up 5 wickets and gave away 54 runs from his quota of 10 overs.
The Indian pacer is the only bowler to pick three five-wicket hauls in this ODI World Cup 2023. Mohammed Shami showed his class straight away in the very first match he played against New Zealand in Dharmshala. In that game, Shami picked up his first five fer in the ODI World Cup 2023.
Mohammed Shami also took the same match figures as Shaheen Shah Afridi. Shami took 5 wickets for 54 runs as well. But Shami’s spell came in a match-winning cause for the men in blue side.
Shami’s second five wicket haul came versus the Sri Lankans at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. He took five wickets for just 18 runs in that game and his third and last five-fer came at the same venue in Mumbai against the Kiwis in the semi-final one match. He picked up seven wickets in that game.
The Indian spin bowling all-rounder had a decent ODI World Cup 2023 with the white cherry and not so much with the bat in hand. He is the only second bowler from the men in blue side after Mohammed Shami to pick up a five wicket haul in this tournament.
He did this in the match against South Africa at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Jaddu picked up 5 scalps for 33 runs in that match.
The only bowler from Sri Lanka who has been added in this list. Dilshan Madushanka is the greatest positive that Sri Lanka can take from this ODI World Cup 2023 campaign.
He is also the last player to feature in this list. His five fer came against India in a losing cause. Madushanka picked up five wickets and gave away 80 runs at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Sri Lanka lost this match by a whopping margin of 302 runs.
