Double Century in ODI World Cup: The World Cup tournament of the fifty-overs format has been played since the edition of 1975. But till now, there are only three batsmen who have scored Double Centuries in ODI World Cup.

Before the 2015 ODI World Cup no batter achieved this feat in this ICC mega event of the fifty overs format.

In the 2019 ODI World Cup edition as well, no batter scored 200 or more runs. In yesterday’s match of ODI World Cup 2023 which was played between the teams of Afghanistan and Australia at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, we all saw the first player who scored more than 200 runs.

That mammoth score was mustered by a player from the Aussie nation. Today in this segment we will name all three players who have scored a Double Century in ODI World Cup -

1. Gayle was the First Batter To Smash Double Century ODI World Cup History

1. Chris Gayle: The West Indian power-hitter is the only player from the Caribbean country to smash a double ton in the World Cup of the 50 overs format.

In the 2015 World Cup, Gayle smashed his first and only double hundred. That Gayle Storm innings came against a weaker side like Zimbabwe.

But still, the innings was remarkable by its standards. Gayle scored 215 runs from 146 balls. He smashed ten fours and 16 sixes and he became the first fastest double centurion.

The Universal Boss, Christopher Henry Gayle also has a record of scoring the most sixes in an ODI World Cup tournament as well.

2. First And Only Player From New Zealand To Smash A Double Century In ODI World Cup

2. Martin Guptill – The opening batter of the Kiwi nation, Martin Guptill is the only player from New Zealand to smash a double hundred in the ODI Cricket history.

Guptill is the second batsman to achieve this feat. He also scored 200 or more runs in the 2015 ODI World Cup in Australia just like Chris Gayle. Martin scored 237 runs against West Indies in the quarter-final match of that ICC mega event.

Martin Guptill's score of 237 is still the highest individual score in the history of the ODI World Cup tournament. Guptill was dropped by Marlon Samuels, which allowed the batter from the Blackcaps side to register a stellar and unbreakable record in the tournament of the ODI World Cup.

3. Glenn Maxwell – This spin bowling all-rounder from the Aussie nation is just the third batter to smash a Double Century In the ODI World Cup.

Glenn Maxwell is also the only batter to score 200 or more runs in this ODI World Cup 2023. He got to this feat in yesterday’s game versus the Afghans.

Australia was tottering at one stage in a run chase of 292 runs. The Aussies had lost seven wickets for just 91 runs. It felt the game was over for them.

But The Big Show, who was dropped twice, made full use of his chances and single-handedly guided his team home. Maxi and Skipper Cummins shared an unbeaten stand of 202 runs which is the highest partnership for the 7th wicket or below in ODIs.

Maxwell scored an unbeaten 201 runs which is the highest score by a non opening batter in fifty-overs format. He took just 128 balls to get to this feat and that is the second-fastest double ton in ODI Cricket.

His knock was the third-highest individual run score in ODI World Cups and the highest score in a run chase of the fifty overs format.
