AUS Vs SA 3rd Test Preview: Playing XI of Aussies

David Warner, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Steven Smith, Travis Head, Alex Carey(wk), Pat Cummins(c), Josh Hazlewood, Nathan Lyon, Scott Boland and Lance Morris/Ashton Agar.

The Aussies won the red ball series against South Africa at MCG on the eve of the Boxing Day Test match. After wrapping up the first test match in two days, Australia won the second red ball match and the series in four days.

Now they are favourites to whitewash the Proteas at Sydney Cricket Ground. The hosts won both matches and they lead the series by a margin of 2-0.

David Warner achieved a tremendous milestone in his 100th Test match. The dashing Aussie opener scored a double ton in the second Test match which was also the 100th match of his career.

Warner is just the second batter after Joe Root to achieve this feat in Test match cricket history. He scored the 3rd double ton of his Test career.

Steve Smith scored brilliant 85 runs while Alex Carey smashed 111 runs. Travis Head and Cameron Green also scored 51 runs each.

This collective effort from the Aussie batters allowed them to score a daunting total of 575 runs for the loss of eight wickets.

Earlier the bowlers once again bundled out the visitors for just 189 runs and they did the magic in the second innings as well.

The Aussies are in the red hot form currently and it will take something special for South Africa to avoid the whitewash.

The home side will go with a two-change because Mitchell Starc and Cameron Green have been ruled out of this last Test match.

The Aussies have many options to replace Cameron Green and Mitchell Starc.

They have also included Ashton Agar in their Test squad for the 3rd and the final Test match. Australia has Michael Neser as well, who is another spin bowling all-rounder and he can also add depth to the batting order.

As per 11Sixes predictions, the hosts might go with Lance Morris and Ashton Agar as replacements for Green and Starc.

Dean Elgar(c), Sarel Erwee, Kyle Verreynne, Temba Bavuma, Rassie van der Dussen, Heinrich Klaasen(wk), Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj/Simon Harmer, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje and Lungi Ngidi.

The batting failures have let the Proteas down in this series and that is the main reason why South Africa has lost their first red-ball series in Australia since 2008.

The batters haven’t stepped up at all for the tourists. They displayed a poor batting show in both the Test matches so far and to avoid the whitewash, SA batters need to deliver.

South Africa scored 189 runs in their first innings when they batted on the first day of the Boxing Day Test match. Australia piled up a mammoth score of 575 runs in their 1st innings.

The Proteas were bundled out for just 204 runs in their second innings, which was nowhere near to the giant total scored by the Aussies.

Dean Elgar has shown his poor form in the red ball series and he hasn't stepped up as a batter or as a leader. Elgar needs to show his class which would help South Africa to avoid the clean sweep series loss.

The others should bat around elegant Elgar. The batters like Bavuma, Erwee, and Verreynne also need to do well with the wooden willow.

South Africa should include Rassie van der Dussen and Heinrich Klaasen in the last test match which would strengthen their batting.

The visitors can drop Khaya Zondo and Theunis de Bruyn. SA also needs their bowlers to step up because they didn’t have a good second Test match as the Aussies piled up more than 500 runs when they batted just once.

Rabada, Nortje, Jansen and Ngidi have been brilliant pace bowlers for South Africa in the past and they did well in the first Test match at the Gabba in Brisbane as well.

But they can rethink including Keshav Maharaj because he has disappointed in this series.

SA can go with Simon Harmer because Keshav Maharaj has been ineffective in the series. Harmer is a spin bowler. His bowling might suit the SCG pitch.

AUS Vs SA 3rd Test Preview: Pitch Report

The pitch at The Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) will be a batting-friendly surface. The pace bowlers will have something in the wicket at the starting overs and the spin bowlers will come into play later as the match progresses.
