Madhya Pradesh: On September 25, a minor girl, who was raped and found roaming half naked, seeking help from people in Ujjain. The girl kept walking for around 8km, door-to-door asking for help but was denied any aid. Finally, Rahul Sharma, a Hindu priest offered her clothes, called the police, and took her to the hospital.
The Police, after going through 700 video footage, traced the accused in the case who was identified as Bharat Soni, living in Nankheda, Ujjain. His neighbors and acquaintances claimed that he used to supply ganja and dealt with prostitutes.
He used to sell packets of ganja and used to supply girls to those coming from outside the state. His family has occupied the government land and has built their house and a temple illegally.
His father, Raju Soni said in an interview, “ I don’t know how to react to what happened. We cannot come out of shame. If he is been named the accused, he should be given capital punishment. I did not even meet the police to talk about him. What if the girl could have been my daughter.”
A dargah was built earlier in the same place where Bharat built his house. According to the neighbors, Bharat’s family removed the dargah and built a small temple there. To provide service to the temple, his family built a house around the temple. His family has been living there since.
Surprisingly, the accused didn’t run away and stayed at home for the whole day. He was distributing Kheer near a Ganpati pandal on Thursday when the police arrested him.
The people who saw the girl walk around seeking help said that they thought she was crazy, she was half naked and we thought she was not mentally stable. Most of the people denied noticing the girl in the locality. They said they came to know only when the police came and inquired about the incident.
The doctors who are treating the minor girl said she’s stable and is not allowed to meet anyone as the police investigation is still going on. No family member has come to meet the girl in the hospital.
According to the police, the accused auto driver made the girl sit in his auto near the railway station, took her to the Jeewankhadi village and raped her. He then left the girl and ran away.
The girl regained consciousness and asked for a lift in another auto, which dropped her to the Hatkeshwar Road after a few hours. Meanwhile, her blood stains got on the seat.
The victim in this case is said to be mentally challenged which makes it difficult for the police to get a statement from her. Although Bharat has accepted his crime. The police are also looking for some scientific evidence to prove his crime and get the accused punished.
