On Monday, July 8, terrorists attacked an army vehicle in Kathua district, Jammu and Kashmir. The attack resulted in the martyrdom of five soldiers.
Five other soldiers injured in the attack were transferred from Kathua's Billawar Community Health Centre to Pathankot Military Hospital late at night.
According to army sources, the security forces were patrolling in two trucks in the Machhedi area of Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district.
At around 3:30 PM, while travelling through the hilly terrain, the terrorists ambushed the army trucks, throwing grenades first and then firing indiscriminately with sniper guns.
The vehicles were moving slowly due to the rough road, with high hills on one side and a deep gorge on the other.
The terrorists, positioned on the hills, launched a grenade at the army trucks and followed up with sniper fire. The army retaliated, but the terrorists managed to flee into the jungle.
Currently, the army is conducting a search operation for the terrorists. According to news agency ANI, it is believed that three to four terrorists were involved in the attack.
