Rise in Coronavirus Cases: According to the latest data released by the Union health ministry on Wednesday, India has witnessed the biggest single-day surge in Covid-19 cases in the past five months and 13 days, with 4,435 fresh infections reported in the last 24 hours. The active case count now stands at 23,091.
On September 25th of last year, a total of 4,777 cases were recorded.
The country's overall Covid-19 tally has risen to 4.47 crore (4,47,33,719) with the addition of these new cases.
The total number of deaths due to Covid-19 in the country has risen to 5,30,916, with 15 new deaths reported in the last 24 hours.
According to the health ministry's report, seven states in India recorded one death each due to Covid-19.
These states were Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Odisha, and Punjab. Meanwhile, Maharashtra saw four fatalities during the same 24-hour period while four deaths were reconciled by Kerala.
In the past 24 hours, a total of 2,508 individuals have recovered from Covid-19, bringing the overall number of recoveries to 4,41,79,712.
As of now, there are 23,091 active cases in the country, which represent only 0.05 per cent of the total number of infections.
The current recovery rate for Covid-19 in India stands at 98.76 per cent. Over the last 24 hours, approximately 1,979 vaccine doses were administered, bringing the total number of vaccine doses given under the nationwide vaccination drive to around 220.66 crore. The fatality rate for the virus remains at 1.19 per cent.
According to the Union health ministry, on Tuesday India reported 3,038 new cases of Covid-19, increasing the total number of active cases to 21,179.
