The Supreme Court on Tuesday heard about the violence in Lakhimpur Kheri. Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh government's lawyer Harish Salve, while filing a reply, said that it is very difficult to collect evidence related to the death of the driver and journalist killed in the violence.
At the same time, the Supreme Court has ordered the Yogi Adityanath government of the state to make elaborate arrangements for the protection of the witnesses of the Lakhimpur Kheri violence. The next hearing of this case will be on November 8.
Tuesday was the hearing of the violence that took place on October 3 in the Tikunia area of Lakhimpur Kheri. Meanwhile, the court also directed the UP government to record the statements of witnesses under section 164 in the case of eight people killed in the Tikunia violence.
The court has said in its order that if there is a problem in the availability of the magistrate in recording the statements of the witnesses, then the judges of that district will make arrangements.
Apart from this, the court has told public prosecutor Harish Salve that it is surprising that even after having thousands of witnesses of such a huge violence, the state government has got only 23 witnesses.
Along with this, the state government will have to make proper arrangements for the protection of the witnesses of the violence. The court has clearly said that the state should file a separate reply in the case of mob lynching of a journalist during the violence.
After hearing the side of the public prosecutor, the bench gave the order. Thereafter, senior advocate Arun Bhardwaj made an appearance on behalf of Ruby Devi, the widow of one of the slain. He said before the bench- 'I appear for Ruby Devi. My husband has been murdered. I want justice. The killers are roaming freely and threatening me'.
After hearing these sides, the court told advocate Harish Salve that the state government should file a separate reply in these matters.
