The much-anticipated film Adipurush, starring Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, and Saif Ali Khan, has made a quiet arrival onto the OTT scene. After multiple delays, the film was released in theatres on June 16.
However, it received a slew of unfavourable reviews, with many criticising its dialogue, visual effects, and storyline. This critical acclaim eventually led to a poor box office performance.
Surprisingly, the film has discreetly surfaced on OTT platforms just two months after its theatrical debut.
Adipurush, directed by Om Raut, is now available on two separate OTT platforms.
The film is available on Amazon Prime Video in Telugu, Kannada, Tamil, and Malayalam for audiences in the South. Meanwhile, those looking for the Hindi version can only discover it on Netflix.
The simultaneous release on both platforms occurred on Friday, August 11, without previous notice from either streaming service.
The film was announced on Prime Video India's social media channels with the phrase, "A timeless saga of good triumphing over evil!" Watch #AdipurushOnPrime right now. Telugu, Kannada, Tamil, and Malayalam are the available languages."
Netflix India, on the other hand, stated, "Witness a timeless story." In Hindi, dekhiye #Adipurush sirf Netflix par."
Despite having an expensive budget of Rs 600 crore, the picture had a lacklustre run at the box office, despite having one of the most stunning opening weekends in recent memory.
Regrettably, the bad buzz surrounding its discourse and depiction of deities on the big screen hampered its capacity to connect with consumers.
Manoj Muntashir, the film's dialogue writer, went so far as to apologise for his experiments with the language, but the harm had already been done.
Sunny Singh, Devdatta Nage, Vatsal Sheth, and Sonal Chauhan are notable cast members who play important roles in the film.
Adipurush's journey from theatrical release to a stealthy arrival on OTT platforms exemplifies the changing environment of cinema distribution and the ease with which content can be accessed in the digital era.
