UPSC Postpones Prelims Exam Amid Lok Sabha Elections

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts the Civil Services Examination every year in three stages: Preliminary, Main, and Interview, to select candidates for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Police Service (IPS), and other administrative positions.

UPSC stated, "In light of the current general election schedule, the Commission has postponed the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination - 2024, which will now be held on June 16 instead of May 26. This examination also serves as the screening test for the Indian Forest Service Examination, 2024."

It is notable that the Lok Sabha elections will be conducted in seven phases starting from April 19, with the counting of votes scheduled for June 4.

Before this, the Commission had extended the registration deadline for the Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2024.

Total Vacancies and Eligibility Criteria

This year, the Commission has announced a total of 1,056 vacancies for the Civil Services Examination (CSE) and 150 vacancies for the Indian Forest Service Examination (IFS). The UPSC CSE Preliminary Examination consists of objective-type questions.
