In the Civil Services Preliminary Examination, there are two objective-type papers, Paper 1 and Paper 2, totalling 400 marks combined. Both papers are conducted in pen and paper mode.
Clearing the Preliminary Examination is necessary to qualify for the Civil Services Main Examination. However, the marks obtained in Prelims do not count towards the final merit.
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has also recently released the calendar for the recruitment examinations scheduled for 2025.
According to the UPSC exam calendar for 2025, the Civil Services Examination (CSE) Preliminary Examination, along with the Indian Forest Service Examination (IFS) Preliminary Examination, will be conducted jointly on May 25, 2025.
