The results of the assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Goa and Manipur were declared on Thursday. There have also been some surprising results in these elections. In this election, veterans like Punjab Congress Chief Navjot Singh Sidhu, Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi, former CM Parkash Singh Badal, Captain Amarinder Singh could not save their stronghold. Punjab CM and Chief Minister face Charanjit Singh Channi had contested from two seats (Bhadaur and Chamkaur Sahib). He had to face defeat in both seats. Channi was defeated by AAP candidate Labh Singh Ugoke from the Bhadaur seat. Labh Singh is 35 years old. He used to work at a mobile repair shop before joining politics and was associated with AAP in 2013.

On the other hand, Channi was defeated by AAP candidate Dr Charanjit Singh from the Chamkaur Sahib seat. Dr Charanjit Singh is an eye doctor. He has been associated with social service for a long time. He is working in Chandigarh PGI.

Navjot Singh Sidhu was in the fray from Amritsar East seat. Aam Aadmi Party had fielded Jeevanjot Kaur against him. Bikram Singh Majithia of Shiromani Akali Dal also contested from this seat. Jeevanjot Kaur defeated both the veterans from this seat.

Parkash Singh Badal, who was CM for 5 times, also loses the election

There was a big upheaval in the elections in Punjab. The reversal also affected the seats of veteran leaders. Even 5-time CM Parkash Singh Badal himself lost the election from the Lambi seat. He was defeated by AAP candidate Gurmeet Singh Khudiyan. Gurmeet Singh Khudian's father Jagdev Singh Khudian has been an MP from the Faridkot seat in 1989. Gurmeet Singh was earlier in Congress, but ut this time he has joined AAP.

Parkash Singh Badal's son and Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Badal also lost the election. Sukhbir Badal had entered the fray from Jalalabad seat. He was defeated by Jagdeep Singh of AAP. Jagdeep Singh is an LLB pass and has also been in Congress. But in the 2017 assembly elections, he had contested as an independent and had to face defeat. At the same time, this time he was given a ticket by the AAP party. Jagdeep defeated Sukhbir Badal by 23310 votes.

Amarinder Singh, who left Congress also loses

Former Punjab CM and Captain Amarinder Singh, who left the Congress and formed a new party, also had to face defeat. Amarinder Singh was in the fray from Patiala city. He was defeated by Ajit Pal Singh Kohli. Ajit Pal has also been the mayor of Patiala in the earlier Akali Dal government. Recently he joined AAP.

CM Pushkar Singh Dhami was defeated by Bhuwan Chandra Kapri

CM Pushkar Dhami, who took charge of power in Uttarakhand six months ago, managed to break the tradition of change of power in every election by getting the BJP back, but could not save his seat. In the high profile Khatima assembly seat of the state, Congress candidate Bhuwan Chandra Kapri has defeated Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.

Bhuwan Chandra Kapri is the Congress State Youth Working President. In 2017 too, he had contested against Dhami and gave him a tough fight. Kapri is very active in Khatima's politics.

Harish Rawat loses from Lalkuan seat

On the other hand, Congress leader and former Chief Minister of the state Harish Rawat also lost the elections. Harish Rawat was defeated by Mohan Singh Bisht of BJP from the Lalkuan seat. Mohan Singh was expelled by BJP for 6 years. But just before the election, he made a comeback in the BJP. Bisht started his political career with student politics. He is considered a grassroots leader.
