Trinamool Government will not Allow the Implementation of NRC in Bengal

Shivani Alakh

Trinamool chief and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that the state's Trinamool government will not allow the implementation of the National Citizen Register (NRC) in Bengal. The Chief Minister told the Assembly that the implementation of NRC is nothing but a political vendetta of the BJP-led Central Government. During the discussion on a resolution on NRC under Rule 185 in the Assembly, Mamta said, "We will not allow BJP to implement NRC in Bengal."

He said that in the way the democratic system is being destroyed in the entire country, all opposition parties will have to unite and agitate. Nationwide agitation against BJP will be the only option. The Chief Minister said this in a counter-speech against NRC in a debate on the joint resolution brought by the government with the support of Congress and the Left Front in the Assembly. The motion was passed after debate.

Not only this, Mamta expressed grief over the problems being faced by the people from the final list of NRC released on 31 August in Assam. On Friday, the Bengal government passed a resolution against the NRC in the Assembly, which was supported by the opposition Congress and the Left Front, while the BJP strongly opposed it. In this proposal NRC has been described as inhuman and dictatorial step. State Urban Development Minister Firhad Hakim, while favoring the state government over NRC in the state assembly, said that NRC is completely against humanity. This has made millions of people homeless. There was no need to implement it. The central government has not taken precise steps on this. It should stop harassing people without delay. Let us tell that the Trinamool will protest against the NRC in the districts on Saturday and Sunday. At the same time, Mamta herself will protest on the road.
