On Friday, Indian wrestler Anshu Malik had to be content with the silver medal after losing in the 57kg final of the Rome Ranking Series wrestling competition, while Divya Kakran missed the podium spot after losing in the bronze medal play-off. Anshu continued her superb form and won a medal in her first international tournament at senior level. However, she lost to Nigeria's Odunayo Adekuoroye in the final match.

The 18-year-old Indian wrestler dominated until she reached the finals. Anshu defeated America's Jenna Ross Burkart, Norway's Grace Bullen, and Canada's 2019 World Champion Linda Morais. Anshu had upset world championship bronze medallist Pooja Dhanda during the trials. Divya had to return empty-handed, losing to Danielle Suzanne Lapagge of Canada.

India can expect another medal as 2019 World Championship bronze medalist Vinesh Phogat is yet to compete in the 53kg weight category. Nirmala Devi will also start her campaign in the 50 kg category. Kiran has already been eliminated from the 76kg event.
